EMERGENCY FIRST AID INFORMATION
The Lanesville Emergency Action Program {LEAP} is a group of Lanesville neighbors.
LEAP’s mission is to mobilize neighbors in times of emergency by education of the community prior to an emergency, and action to support those in need during and following events such as blizzards, fires, floods, hurricanes, and power outages.
LEAP is concerned about those events that affect single individuals as well as those that have a community-wide impact. When 911 emergency services are not available or sufficient, LEAP will offer assistance to the Lanesville community. LEAP does not replace 911 emergency services, it is meant to complement these essential City services.
As LEAP matures and grows, it plans to share what it has learned with surrounding neighborhoods and communities interested in developing similar emergency programs. LEAP is described in detail in a written plan that is available to the community (available as a download at www.leap-lanesville.org. The key aspects of the LEAP program are:
ORGANIZATION LEAP plans to apply for IRS 501(c)(3) status, to enable City, State and Federal funding and to assure that donations to LEAP will be considered tax-deductible.
LEAP COORDINATION CENTER During emergencies, a Command Center will be manned at the Lanesville Community Center (LCC). It will function as a contact point for the community and for government organizations that want to disseminate emergency information to the community.
COMMUNICATION LEAP will make emergency information available to the community via FM Broadcasts over Lanesville’s own radio station {88.7}, the LEAP website, and telephone notification.
LEAP DATABASE LEAP will maintain a secure database that identifies and details the needs of our most vulnerable citizens and the community assets available during an emergency.
EDUCATION/TRAINING LEAP will facilitate community preparedness education and more advanced training for volunteers who will assist the community during emergencies.
ASSETS/SUPPLIES Over time, LEAP hopes to acquire emergency equipment such as blankets, cots, generators and other needed materials.
YOUR ROLE LEAP has already made significant progress, however the long-term success of LEAP will depend upon you and your neighbor’s participation. Please join us!
